Raising funds to Build 1,000 affordable Homes

UTTE is on a mission to Build 1,000 Homes with its ground-breaking Empower Upgrade Model, an integrated implementation plan to address South Africa’s chronic public housing crisis. The Model is set to define what public housing can look like in post-RDP South Africa, providing residents of informal settlements in Cape Town and beyond with dignified homes and access to economic opportunities.

Empower community development prototype in Khayelitsha has now been completed and consists of 72 homes, a public open space and shared community centre – with life changing socio-economic benefits for over 428 beneficiaries. The model is designed to be scaleable, replicable, and implemented at the necessary urgent rate in which we require affordable housing.

Empower Home

Water & Sanitation

Providing adequate Water and Sanitation for everyone is a mandate of the United Nations. This plays a very important part in reinstating dignity and uplifting communities.

Access to clean water and proper sanitation facilities can lead to better health outcomes, increased educational opportunities, and the overall empowerment of individuals, thereby fostering a thriving and resilient society. The Empower Model incorporates upgrading the Water and Sanitation systems around the development area.

Renewable Energy

We also need support in supplying energy to the Empower Model by installing solar power. Many communities we work with face unreliable or expensive electricity. Donating towards these solar initiatives helps us install and maintain photovoltaic systems, bringing clean, sustainable energy directly to residents. This reduces reliance on traditional grids, lowers household costs, and creates a more resilient and environmentally friendly infrastructure.

Fire Safety

Township areas in South Africa are generally built with materials that are prone to being a fire hazard. This combined with the close proximity of the dwellings in these areas and the use of flammable energy sources pose a huge fire risk.

The Empower model incorporates building materials and methods that lowers the risk of fires in these areas, creating a safe environment for communities to live in.

Education

UTTE believes that the cornerstone of building sustainable communities is education.  Empowering youth through engagement and programmes.

Your contribution helps us to develop the community’s youth through education, but also by preparing food for the township feeding schemes, providing safety for victims of abuse and providing a safe supporting space for recovering addicts.
