Little Angels School
Little Angels is a project to realise a full-service community facility for the existing and thriving school for Little Angels currently used for teaching children. Empowering youth, preparing food for a township feeding scheme, providing safety for victims of abuse and providing a safe supporting space for recovering addicts.
Current Operation
The centre is currently operating on the proposed site in makeshift temporary structures, already accommodating;
• A creche for 84 children (with a waiting list of another 75 kids).
• An aftercare program for 12 children.
• A safehouse for abused women and children with 30 women as well as their respective 22 children.
• A feeding program for the Hangberg and Imizamo Yethu communities, currently feeding 1 000 people daily.
• A youth development program for 19 young adults.
• Ad hoc workshops around various topics (including addiction, substance abuse, GBV, etc.) throughout the year.

Future Possibilities
UTTE has been approached by Little Angels School in Hout Bay to assist them with realising their dream to establish a solid and secure social centre. The new development would allow the Centre to;
• Expand all the current programs, including accommodating children already on the various waiting lists.
• Open a safe house / orphanage/ halfway home dedicated to orphans in need of care and protection.
• Run a proper youth and aftercare program to keep youth off the streets, and provide them with opportunities to develop hobbies.
• Establish a skills development centre for employment assistance.
• Activity facilitation for stimulation for the elderly.
• Open a parenting center bringing in a midwife and doula, running antenatal classes, parenting classes and youth workshops to speak about sex and relationships.
• Open a model training ‘grandparents’ to become councillors to assist and guide the community, through being open for ‘chats’, ‘cup of tea’, etc.
• Start a drug rehabilitation program.
• Coordinate and facilitate community events.
“Embrace”
Design Concept
The conceptual design was developed by UTT and Helen&Hard, and prioritises a sense of Embrace for all those protected by the facility, without becoming closed off to the rest of the surrounding community.
